Tetris Didn't Succeed at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

Each time a significant prize-giving event approaches, one notices a demand to include additional classifications to recognize underappreciated efforts and satisfy the spirits of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. The same goes for board games, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize since similar to single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request remains most pressing and significant. This is the request: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and it will always generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why movie academies steer clear of genre categories. But it is an unavoidable compromise for the industry of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types successfully include a lot of ground, making space possible for numerous titles.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to put them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles in a particular game, intense tile-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. What category would fit them among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly that have no home at major award shows, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked completely that year
  • Another creative title missed out that year
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment recently
  • Just some brain-teasers scraped into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent small games, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most popular titles in the world continuing this trend for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience rivals popular creative games competing to become most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, while interacting with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. One could readily select a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these are games without proper classification in important events. Brain-teaser creators are working at the hard edge game development, producing among the purest expressions of gaming itself. Just like cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay generations.
